Functional and Aesthetic Surgery of the Nose

What is rhinoplasty or septoplasty

Rhinoplasty (cosmetic and functional surgery of the nose) aims to reshape the skeleton of the nasal pyramid so that it is functional and more harmonious with the face as a whole by gracefulening its shape.

The role of the surgeon

The surgeon will carefully evaluate the internal nasal structures and several factors, such as skin thickness and elasticity, skin quality, the shape and size of the nose, the relationship of the nose to the other planes of the face, and its bony architecture. The effects of rhinoplasty will be explained to understand whether the patient’s expectations are compatible with the achievable results.

Nose blemishes, as it is a prominent structure and located right in the middle of the face, play a major role in people’s perception of their image. There are several studies demonstrating the detrimental effects on one’s self-esteem carried out on patients with nasal pyramid dysmorphia.

Other integrative surgeries, such as Mentoplasty (scientifically called genioplasty), to seek greater balance of facial harmony will possibly be discussed.

Convalescence from such surgery is not expected to be particularly painful. The surgeon sees the final shape of the nose as early as the surgery is completed, while the patient, given the gradual reduction of postoperative edema, will be able to appreciate its final appearance about 3-4 months after surgery.

NOTE: In smokers, the healing time is usually prolonged and the risk of complications is higher.
